Crowdtesting involves mostly real people, and partially testers, but at the end of the day it represents your product relevant user base – no test fatigue, blinkers or folks stuck in a rut. We will take a look at how this can also help enhance your testing organisation. While you can crowdtest pretty much anything from vacuum cleaners to chewing gums, it is particularly well suited for mobile-first software products (web or app), especially in remote and co-located team setups nowadays. What’s more, for mobile we’re dealing with real devices – no emulators, no reset sterile lab conditions, instead we’re talking relevant mobile networks and real-life smartphone setups. Take this combined with your traditional quality strategy, and crowdtesting will give you a lot of freedom and fast top-notch product feedback. No automation needed!

Having successfully introduced crowdtesting at a few companies, Ron will give an overview of the key industry players, and tell the story of his journey as a Test Lead striving to make test results fun and meaningful. He crowdtested mobile & web products for an international construction software company, a large video streaming startup, and now for Cazoo. His experience report aims at helping attendees avoid mistakes he made, uncovering common pitfalls and sharing what worked well to empower everyone to do the same.

This interactive talk will shed light on what can help you to find the right long-term strategy and provider for your needs. You will find advice on how to adjust your test strategy, what to pursue in a pilot, how to target relevant device groups and equip you with what’s important in your journey to making your mobile releases a continuous success, with happy customers and happy testers.

Key takeaways:
  • Do your research (be certain about what want to achieve) and housekeeping (test systems, test suites, test data etc.) prior to engagement
  • Always start with pilot projects (and stay agile - inspect & adapt!)
  • Consider the human (how to communicate best with your crowdtesters!) and the tech side of things (app distribution & dev process integration, OS & device combinations, real devices etc.)
